Israeli AR optics solutions provider Lumus recently announced a new licensed manufacturing agreement with its long-time supply chain partner Quanta Computer. Quanta will produce its next-generation AR glasses waveguides, which are thinner and easier to mass-produce, covering the Z-30 2.0 and the A-Lens series with 30° and 50° fields of view. The partnership builds on nearly a decade of technical collaboration, dating back to Quanta's strategic investment in Lumus in 2016.

On the product side, the Z-30 2.0 is an upgrade to the previous-generation Z-30, delivering a 30-degree field of view in a thinner, lighter optical engine while boosting brightness and supporting direct fitting of prescription lenses. The new A-Lens series targets cost-effective mass production, offering 30° and 50° field-of-view versions at roughly half the weight and thickness of the previous generation, while retaining the imaging quality and optical efficiency that are hallmarks of Lumus' geometric waveguide architecture.

Lumus CEO Ari Grobman said the partnership has always centered on addressing the practical challenges of mass-producing advanced AR optical technology, and that the new agreement enables the company to bring low-cost waveguides to volume production with a partner that understands both technology and manufacturing. Quanta Vice Chairman and General Manager C.C. Leung emphasized that the company will leverage its strengths in AI infrastructure, intelligent computing platforms, precision optics and global manufacturing operations to deliver lightweight, high-brightness, cost-effective and mass-producible optical solutions for next-generation AI smart glasses.

The signing of this licensing agreement marks the full transition of Lumus' geometric waveguide technology from R&D iteration to commercial mass production. As AI smart glasses accelerate their shift toward high-definition displays and all-day wearability, waveguide thickness, weight and cost have become the core bottlenecks limiting widespread adoption. The deepening collaboration between Lumus and Quanta is providing key support for cost reduction and efficiency gains across the AR optics industry and for bringing end products to the mass market.
