Yutong Optics Establishes Optical Interconnect Company, Pivoting to a New Track

Yutong Optics established Shenzhen Yutong Optical Interconnect Technology on July 7, marking two strategic moves within a month.
Yutong Optics has made a series of moves recently, completing two key steps within a month. Shenzhen Yutong Optical Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd. was first registered and established on July 7, followed shortly by the official unveiling of Yutong Optics Japan Co., Ltd. in Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo, on July 24.

From domestic capacity expansion to an overseas R&D outpost, the optics company, which holds more than 40 percent of the global security lens market, is sending a clear signal: its strategic shift from security to optical communications, and from manufacturing scale to technology-driven growth, has entered an accelerated phase.
According to Qichacha, Shenzhen Yutong Optical Interconnect Technology Co., Ltd. is legally represented by He Minchao, with a business scope covering the manufacture and sale of optical instruments, the manufacture and retail of electronic components, and the manufacture and sale of optoelectronic devices. An ownership breakdown shows the company is jointly held by Dongguan Yutong Precision Optics Co., Ltd. and individuals including He Minchao, Zhang Yuanying, Dai Disen and Chen Xiaobo, with Dongguan Yutong Precision Optics Co., Ltd. as the largest shareholder.
Since the beginning of 2026, Yutong Optics has steadily expanded its footprint in optical communications: it established Yutong Guangzhi Micro-Nano in February, formally entering the micro-nano optics field; set up Yutong Precision Optics in May to focus on core optical components for optical communications; and in the same month signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Shenzhen LbOptics covering precision optical devices, DOE products and optical transmission. The launch of Shenzhen Yutong Optical Interconnect marks another move in the optical interconnect arena, as an industry chain closed loop takes shape from micro-nano optics to precision components and on to system-level optical interconnect solutions.
If the new Shenzhen company represents a horizontal expansion of capacity and market reach, the unveiling of the Tokyo subsidiary is a deep strategic positioning move. The inauguration ceremony for Yutong Optics Japan Co., Ltd. was held on July 24 in Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo.

Yutong Optics has outlined three strategic dimensions: strengthening core competitiveness by shifting from product export to joint technology development and shared standards; boosting R&D capabilities by using the Japanese subsidiary as an overseas cutting-edge R&D hub to engage deeply with world-class optical design concepts and manufacturing standards; and accelerating global expansion by using Japan as a strategic hub to embed itself more deeply in the global precision optics supply chain.
In fact, as early as August 2025, Yutong Optics announced plans to use its wholly-owned subsidiary Yuhao Technology (Hong Kong) International Co., Ltd. as the investment vehicle to establish a wholly-owned Japanese subsidiary with JPY 30 million. Nearly a year elapsed from the announcement to the official unveiling, underscoring its caution and resolve in building an overseas R&D footprint.
These strategic moves are backed by solid performance. Its 2025 annual report shows full-year revenue of RMB 3.382 billion, up 23.27% year on year; net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 246 million, up 34.09%; and net profit excluding non-recurring items of RMB 243 million, up 52.18%.
The growth momentum continued into the first quarter of 2026, with revenue of RMB 819 million, up 33.16% year on year, and net profit attributable to shareholders of RMB 56.7336 million, up 16.14%. On the R&D front, the company's R&D expenses reached RMB 202 million in 2025, up 16.7% year on year.

By business mix, security-related operations remain the main revenue driver, but emerging businesses such as automotive and new consumer markets are growing rapidly. This diversified revenue structure opens up greater room for growth.
From an industry perspective, Yutong Optics has ranked first globally in security lens shipments for 10 consecutive years, with a 41.40% global market share in 2024. Yet it is undeniable that growth in the security segment is slowing. How to defend its core business while finding second and third growth curves is a question this industry leader must answer.
Risks, of course, must not be overlooked. The optical communications business is still at an early stage: apart from glass lenses, which have entered production and are shipping in batches, other products are undergoing technical alignment and small-batch sample evaluation with supply chain partners and have not yet reached volume production. In addition, the company's accounts receivable balance stood at RMB 1.189 billion at the end of 2025, up 39.53% from the beginning of the period, while inventory reached RMB 804 million, up 38.54%. Funding pressure during this expansion phase warrants continued attention.
From Dongguan to Shenzhen, and from China to Japan, Union Optech is demonstrating through its actions the determination of a leading Chinese optics company to transform from "scale leadership" to "technology leadership." The market will take time to verify whether this path can succeed, and OFweek Optics will continue to follow the story.
