SVG broke ground in Suzhou on its Micro- and Nano-Optical Manufacturing Excellence and Innovation Center, with total investment of about RMB 557 million, including about RMB 353 million for construction and about RMB 204 million for equipment, on a 25,000 square meter site. The center will establish an AI plus integrated nano-manufacturing platform for semiconductor lithography, optical inspection and novel displays, undertaking basic research, key technology development and pilot-scale translation.
Integrating sphere and light measurement specialist Labsphere announced the acquisition of Photon Gear, which focuses on the design and manufacture of ultra-precision custom optical systems and lens assemblies and has multi-wavelength interferometric testing capabilities. The deal value was not disclosed. Combined, Labsphere will pair its light generation, control and measurement platforms with custom lens assembly and interferometric testing capabilities to serve customers in semiconductors, aerospace and defense.
Hengmai Optics recently shipped eight ultra-precision optical processing systems with apertures of 2.2 m, 1.6 m and 1.8 m, and delivered 14 systems with apertures from 1.2 m to 3 m in September, pushing cumulative shipments past 1,000 units. Annual shipments have grown by an average of 100% over the past three years. QYResearch data show the global ultra-precision optical processing equipment market was worth about USD 126 million in 2025.
ASML said its existing 2027 and 2028 supply plans cannot fully meet customer demand and that it is studying a further expansion of 2028 capacity beyond the previously planned 30% increase. Quarterly sales through September 27 were EUR 11.7 billion, up more than 50% year over year. The NXE:3800F EUV lithography system slated for introduction next year will raise productivity from 230 to 260 wafers per hour.
Why we recommend it: Capacity expansion and productivity upgrades are proceeding in parallel, offering concrete industry clues on how AI demand translates into EUV lithography equipment supply constraints.
A Laser Focus World article weighs building a laser beam analysis solution against buying one, noting that although high-quality cameras and low-cost computing are widely available and a home-built beam profiler may seem simple, 11 factors need to be considered in practice.
The 32nd VISION machine vision trade show, organized by Messe Stuttgart, took place in Stuttgart last week, attracting more than 9,000 professional visitors, up 14% from 2024. The event drew a record number of exhibitors and presented the VISION Start-Up Award.
Kunyou Optoelectronics announced the completion of a C+ round exceeding 1 billion yuan, with investors undisclosed. The company's 12-inch wafer-level optics production line in Lingang, Shanghai, built with an investment of 2 billion yuan, is expected to be completed and come online in 2027, targeting AR, fiber optics, optical communications, automotive optics and optical computing markets. This follows its C round in January 2026 and a C+ round of nearly 400 million yuan in April.
Why we recommend it: The article lists three funding rounds this year and progress on the 12-inch wafer-level optics line, helping understand capital and capacity deployment in wafer-level optics
Six group standards for the commercial specifications and grades of Chinese herbal medicines, issued under the Anhui Provincial Association of Chinese Materia Medica, have been released. The team led by researcher Li Xiangxian at the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (AIOFM) was among the principal drafting units, covering Peucedanum root, Clinopodium herb, Atractylodes macrocephala root, Moutan bark, red peony root, and white peony root. The standards classify grades primarily by morphological characteristics and active ingredient content. The team applied the advantages of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy - rapid, nondestructive, and multicomponent detection - to the quality evaluation of Chinese herbal medicines, and demonstrated mid-infrared and portable near-infrared FTIR analyzers.
TRUMPF will showcase its TruMicro series of ultrafast lasers and applications at Wesemibay 2026 from October 14 to 16, highlighting ultraviolet femtosecond lasers, energy output control, and a scalable platform. The series has been certified for volume production by several leading display and semiconductor manufacturers.
