Six group standards for commercial specification grades of traditional Chinese medicinal materials, administered by the Anhui Provincial Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, have been released. The team of researcher Li Xiangxian at AIOFM (Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics) was among the main drafting units, covering qianhu (Peucedanum), duanxueliu, baizhu (Atractylodes), moutan cortex, red peony root and white peony root. The standards classify grades based on morphological characteristics and active ingredient content as core indicators. The team applied the advantages of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy — rapid, nondestructive and multicomponent detection — to the quality evaluation of Chinese medicinal materials, with accompanying demonstrations of mid-infrared and portable near-infrared FTIR analyzers.
JEDEC has released the JESD264 standard, setting new certification and reliability requirements for the emerging silicon photonics market. It is the first reliability standard for silicon photonics in AI networks.
Why we recommend it: The original article explains that silicon photonic devices now have a dedicated reliability certification standard for the first time, helping to understand the threshold for silicon photonics entering large-scale AI network deployment
Wavelength Opto-Electronic announced on the evening of October 8 that it had received an indictment from the Third Branch of the Shanghai People's Procuratorate. After concluding its investigation, the Anti-Smuggling Bureau of Shanghai Customs referred the case for prosecution, alleging that the company and four defendants including Huang Shengdi smuggled goods banned from import and export, with an amount involved of RMB 20.1085 million.
The US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a modernization of what it calls outdated vehicle lighting standards.
The State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of China have released three national standards for Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The team led by Li Xiangxian at the Environmental Optics Center of the Anhui Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics took part in drafting them.
The National Semiconductor Materials Standards Project Review Meeting and Standards Formulation and Revision Work Conference was held in Fuyang, Hangzhou, from April 27 to 30, co-organized by the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Mechanics and its incubated company Fujia Gallium. The meeting reviewed the 2026 semiconductor materials standards plan projects and conducted approval, pre-review and discussion of multiple standards.
An exchange meeting on proof-of-concept platform development was held November 26 in Xihu District, Hangzhou, bringing together heads of science and technology departments from more than 20 provinces and cities and representatives of more than 50 proof-of-concept institutions. The Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics was invited to speak. HIOM Deputy Director Zhuang Chunguang said its Optoelectronic Functional Materials Proof-of-Concept Center carries out full-lifecycle proof-of-concept work across four areas: semiconductors and specialty chips, optoelectronic materials, optoelectronic communications and optoelectronic equipment, and has established a revenue-sharing mechanism among research teams, the proof-of-concept center and investment institutions. Shanghai's newly established proof-of-concept platforms can receive up to 30 million yuan in support.
Qi Hongji, director of the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, delivered a presentation at Hangzhou's work deployment meeting on sci-tech innovation investment and the development of concept verification centers and pilot bases, introducing the construction and practice of the "Hangzhou Concept Verification Center for Advanced Optoelectronic Functional Materials."
The 'Proof-of-Concept Center for Advanced Optoelectronic Functional Materials' built by the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Mechanics has been included in Zhejiang Province's first batch of 22 proof-of-concept centers. The center has established a public service platform for laser and optical characterization, a Fuyang District shared semiconductor process platform, and the Russell Advanced Optical Wave Science Center. The characterization platform is equipped with more than 30 instruments for optical, electrical, and thermal testing. The center will focus on four major fields — optoelectronic functional materials, semiconductor materials, specialty optical fiber materials, and optoelectronic equipment — to advance proof-of-concept validation and industrialization of research results.
Canada has announced it will invest C$120 million over five years to support the C$220 million Fabric project led by CMC Microsystems, helping startups commercialize their technologies. The project will subsidize prototyping, provide cheaper tools, software and training, and offer up to C$10 million in funding for semiconductor, superconductor, smart sensor and photonics hardware development.
