Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) · Research ProgressOptics industryOptics and AIAI score4747 Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics Dual-Modal Neuromorphic Device Uses Optical Signals to Boost Machine Olfaction Gas Classification Accuracy
A team led by researcher Li Shaojuan at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics has developed a vision-olfaction dual-modal neuromorphic device based on a MoS2/SnS2 floating-gate heterostructure. The device responds to both optical and gas signals and fuses them at the device level. The results were published in Advanced Materials. The device has an active area of 148 µm² and static power consumption of 3.4 µW. With the optical modality introduced, classification accuracy for 12 gases rose from 52.24% to 98.27%, while recognition accuracy for 51 gas mixtures reached 89.32%.
Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) · Research ProgressOptics industryPicksAI score6060 Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics Develops Goblet-Shaped Waveguide Mid-Infrared Quantum Cascade Laser with Room-Temperature Low-Power Output
A team led by Researcher Meng Bo at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics published a paper in Laser & Photonics Reviews presenting a mid-infrared quantum cascade laser with a goblet-shaped waveguide structure, using selective wet etching of the active region and eliminating the semi-insulating InP lateral regrowth process. A 1 mm x 3 um device achieved a continuous-wave threshold power consumption of about 1 W at 293 K, an output power above 27 mW, and a room-temperature pulsed wall-plug efficiency of 3.9%. A 2 um-wide device achieved stable single-mode lasing across the entire current range, with a side-mode suppression ratio of about 20 dB.
Why we recommend it: The goblet-shaped waveguide eliminates the semi-insulating InP regrowth process through selective wet etching. The original paper gives room-temperature continuous-wave threshold power consumption and wall-plug efficiency, which can be compared with buried heterostructure devices for context.

Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) · Research ProgressOptics industryAI score4949 Changchun Institute of Optics Develops Color-Tunable, Highly Efficient Heat-Insulating Programmable Photovoltaic Window
A team led by Guo Xiaoyang and Liu Xingyuan at the Changchun Institute of Optics, in collaboration with the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, has built asymmetric Fabry-Perot microcavities using double-sided dielectric/metal/dielectric (DMD) electrodes to create color-programmable semi-transparent organic photovoltaic windows. The results were published in Advanced Functional Materials. The device achieves a power conversion efficiency of 10.07%, an average visible light transmittance of 35.9%, an infrared blocking rate of 91.59%, and a color rendering index of 89.8. The reflected color can be tuned by varying the thickness of the MoO3 dielectric layers on both sides, covering most of the sRGB color gamut.
Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics · Industry NewsOptics industryAI score4545 Fujia Gallium Achieves Batch Supply of 2-Inch (011) Ga2O3 Substrates
Fujia Gallium, an incubated company of the Hangzhou Institute of Optics and Mechanics, can now stably supply (011)-plane 2-inch gallium oxide (Ga2O3) single-crystal substrates in volume, with continuous deliveries to research institutions and companies in China and abroad. Three-axis HRXRD tests at the Shenzhen Pinghu Laboratory showed an average full width at half maximum of about 16.2 arcsec across five points on the wafer. The original report says the substrates can provide material support for downstream applications such as power devices and deep-ultraviolet detectors.

A team led by Academician Wang Lijun at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, together with Zheng Chuantao's team at Jilin University, published a paper in Optics and Laser Technology proposing an 8-channel complex-coupled DFB semiconductor laser array based on high-order surface gratings and periodic current injection, requiring neither epitaxial regrowth nor nanoscale lithography.
Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (CIOMP) · Research ProgressOptics industryPicksAI score5959 Changchun Institute of Optics and Mechanics MTC-Designed Quantum Cascade Laser Achieves 1.2 µm Ultrabroad Lasing Spectrum at Room Temperature
A team led by researcher Meng Bo at the Changchun Institute of Optics and Mechanics published a paper in Light: Science & Applications proposing a multistate-to-continuum (MTC) active-region design based on diagonal transitions, and used MOCVD to grow a mid-infrared quantum cascade laser with a single active region and an ultrabroad gain spectrum.
Why we recommend it: The diagonal-transition design from multiple states to continuum states lets several transition channels contribute gain simultaneously. The original text gives lasing spectral widths of 1.2 µm at room temperature and 1.93 µm at 80 K, directly relevant to applications such as mid-infrared frequency combs.
